Provided the Metro Vancouver weather forecast includes clear skies, January's full wolf moon will be visible on Jan. 13, 2025.

The best full moon to howl at during the year occurs in Metro Vancouver this month.

January's full lunar offering, known as the full wolf moon, takes place on Jan. 13 at 2:26 p.m., according to dateandtime.com.

The first moon of the year has been known by many names, but people have referred to it as the wolf moon for centuries. Other popular names for January's moon include the cold moon, hard moon, great moon, and Canada goose moon, among many others.

Wolves tend "to howl more during the winter months" to define territory, locate pack members and gather for hunting, according to The Old Farmer's Almanac.

Last year's January full moon was considered a supermoon because its proximity to Earth made it appear significantly larger and bright. It was the first of four supermoons in 2024.
