Vancouver weather: Heavy rain forecast for one day this week

A glance at the seven-day forecast for several Vancouver neighbourhoods

Vancouver's weather is really going to bounce around over the next seven days.

V.I.A.'s Weatherhood is currently predicting three relatively sunny days, two showery days, and two rainy days in the short-term forecast, but in a fairly random order.

Wednesday, Oct. 2, and Thursday should both be similar, with highs in the mid-teens and a mix of sun and cloud. For example, Stanley Park is expected to see a mix of sun and clouds with highs around 15 C and lows around 9 C each day. There's a slim chance of showers.

On the other end of the city, on the banks of the Fraser River, highs of up to 17 C are expected with more sunshine (though overnight lows are still around 9 C).

However, that changes significantly on Friday.

Rain is expected to hit Vancouver, with up to 30 mm expected in some neighbourhoods, including Hastings-Sunrise. Weatherhood shows it'll rain harder in neighbourhoods in the north and east of the city. UBC is predicted to be the driest area of the city on Friday, with only about 16 mm of rainfall.

Across the city, it should be around 14 C at the warmest and 11 C at the coolest.

That rain should dissipate overnight though, with only some light showers expected on Saturday on a mostly cloudy day. That'll allow the city to warm a bit, with a high of 16 C.

Sunday will be the day for outdoor activities it looks like, with a forecast high of 17 C and a mix of sun and cloud in the sky. There is only a slim chance of showers forecast right now; if they do fall, they will likely be light.

Next week will start off grey, though, as the weather bounces back to a showery Monday. Current forecasts show a high of 16 or 17 C, which is warm, but also a good chance of showers with up to 3 mm of precipitation. Some neighbourhoods in the southeast may space the showers, though.

On Tuesday, more rain is expected, with a high chance of precipitation and upwards of 30 mm falling in some neighbourhoods (Hastings-Sunrise is again likely to be among the rainiest places in the city). The southeast corner of the city may getaway with just 22 mm.
