I’ve been coming to Squamish to hike, bike and climb since 1996, and made it my home in 2012. My husband Sean and I chose Squamish because we wanted our two young daughters to have easy access to the outdoors, we wanted to work within and engage with an entrepreneurial and vibrant business culture, and we wanted the opportunity to play an active role in our community. For us, Squamish ticks all of these boxes and more.
The Squamish in which I want my kids to grow up has:
- A large and diversified business sector that creates local, sustainable, well paying jobs in industries that don’t foul our air, land, or water.
- A social conscience that ensures no one gets left behind as we grow.
- A spirit of innovation and collaboration that exists both within and outside the council chamber to ensure that the plans and aspirations we have for our town find a way to success.
I believe that the best ideas can come from anywhere. To me, it’s evident that there is no shortage of ideas percolating in this town. I know that the people of Squamish are smart, resourceful, creative, caring and motivated. I want to ensure that we have more opportunities to bring together both great people and great ideas to make Squamish the envy of all.
My career is all about people. My professional background began with marketing, communications, event management and investor relations. In 2002, I followed a new calling and pursued my Masters of Applied Behavioural Science, focusing on leadership, teamwork, and engagement and their influence on business innovation, productivity, quality and growth. In 2005, I launched my own practice, Karen Elliott Consulting & Coaching where I help create great leaders, productive teams and workplaces that produce results. Simply put: I help people work better together.
I am a skilled communicator, known for my honesty and the ability to discern what is important, even in the most complex of situations. Planning, setting priorities, and measuring outcomes are essential to success and I use an inclusive approach and my sense of humour to build commitment, energy and optimism.
My time is currently spent between my consulting practice, my family, my friends and my community. I support new mums in the Healthy Pregnancy Outreach Program, I am a literacy tutor through Capilano University, and I have been an early contributor to StartUp Squamish. I have a well-developed sweet tooth and I have a secret passion for puzzles.
Until the launch of my campaign website http://votekarenelliott.ca. I invite you to learn more about me through my Facebook page. Please connect with me online or introduce yourself if you see me around town. I'd love to hear your ideas for Squamish.
