According to court documents, on Jan. 17, the Kamloops coach entered a guilty plea to one count of internet luring of a child under the age of 18.

A Kamloops man who coached youth sports will be sentenced for a sexual offence involving youths that took place over a two-year period.

The man, 51, cannot be named due to a court-ordered publication ban protecting the identity of victims under the age of 18 in connection with an offence committed by an adult.

On Monday, Jan. 17, the man entered a guilty plea to one count of internet luring of a child under the age of 18, involving two complainants, which took place from January 2018 to March 2020, according to court documents.

He was charged last year with sexual interference of a person under the age of 16 and sexual assault stemming from 2017, and internet luring of a child under 18 between 2017 and 2019, but those charges were stayed by Crown on Monday in exchange for the guilty plea.

The man’s next court date will be Feb. 3 to set a sentencing date. He remains free on bail under conditions.

It is not clear if the man’s position as a coach played a role in the offence.

The man is no longer coaching youth sports.
