Anyone who’s been curious to try out Tai Chi has a chance to do so in August.
Free classes are being offered at O’Siyam Pavilion every Monday from Aug. 6 to Aug. 27.
Classes last for one hour, starting at 6:30 p.m.
“Anyone can practice this art, at their own pace and to their own capability, under the guidance of accredited volunteer instructors,” reads a release from Fung Loy Kok Taoist Tai Chi.
“The Squamish group is a mix of people of all ages, from all over the country. Students work on finding balance and relaxation as they practice the 108 moves.”
Some practitioners say the art has health benefits.
For example, Ken Perry gave it a shot after his son, Justin — a Tai Chi instructor — said it could help him deal with pain caused from a back injury.
“This started me on the road to recovery and within a few short months, I was able to resume normal activities,” said Perry.
For those who want something more after attending the free classes, regular sessions are held Monday and Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Thursday classes are held on 9:30 a.m.
These sessions are located at the St. John’s Anglican Church, behind London Drugs.
