Effective Tuesday (Sept. 1) the Helping Hands Society drop-in facility will be open seven days a week. With the extended hours, more volunteers are needed to share their hands with Helping Hands. All Squamish area schools will open one week earlier this year on Monday (Aug. 31) and motorists are reminded of the speed limits in the school areas and to also watch for youngsters crossing the road near schools.
The Squamish Food Bank will distribute grocery hampers on Wednesday (Sept. 2) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Alano Club on Third Avenue. Donations of fresh vegetables and fruit are always appreciated and can be dropped off on Wednesday by 9 a.m.

There is good news for seniors who have signed up for the Seniors Keep Well Exercises to start in the new Squamish Seniors Centre on Oct. 5. A short program will be held in the Brennan Park Recreation Centre starting on Wednesday, Sept. 9 from 11 a.m. to noon and each Monday and Wednesday until Sept. 30. The Howe Sound Women's Centre is sponsoring a Walk a Mile in Her Shoes on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 11 a.m. This event and fundraiser is a march to stop rape, sexual assault and gender violence.
