Some people say Hollywood produces a lot of doo-doo, but thanks to a local businesswoman, dealing with it might become a little easier and a lot more visually pleasing.
Playpants Modern Bloomers, the brainchild of Squamish's Rachel Boguski, along with her partners Anna Day and Zoe Flower, are off to Tinseltown for a pre-Oscars baby and toddler-gifting suite after their stylish brand of diaper covers was discovered by a Hollywood hotshot.
Boguski said the invitation to the exclusive event was a pleasant surprise for the company, which was formed in August 2009.
"We were just blown away to be invited," she said. "My two partners phoned me when we all found out and there was a lot of shrieks of excitement over the phone. It's a really big deal for our small new brand."
The company's diaper covers are modern bloomers, which are uniquely designed to help capture a child's individuality while also being functional. She said an industry insider in Calgary who was a fan of their product sent a few samples to Jayneoni Moore, the organizer of the Baby Boom Boom Room and Moore fell in love with the Playpants product. Moore contacted them shortly thereafter and the trio began making plans for what Boguski joked would be a "girls' weekend" in the Sunshine State.
"She [Moore] really picks and chooses what products go to this event and I was told her 2 -year old daughter loves our product," she said, adding that the event has been going on for seven years.
Boguski said the opportunity to get her product out there and interact with others in the industry was too appealing to pass up.
"We're really looking forward to the networking opportunities that this event will bring for us," she said. "There are going to be other mompreneurs there and the support we get from other moms is fabulous. It's funny how much impact a celebrity endorsement has on a brand. It's really instant credibility."
The Boom Boom Room is an invitation-only event, with vendors being set up in the Beverly Hilton Hotel, the site of the Golden Globes awards show. Some of the celebrities who have attended the event in the past include Denise Richards, Halle Berry, Courtney Cox and Jessica Alba. Media such as People Magazine, US Weekly and Entertainment Tonight also regularly cover the event.
Boguski will head down to California on Feb. 24, with the event taking place on Feb. 25 and Feb. 26. She also noted that she has family in the area and will take some time to visit with them after the event.
The company will be bringing its brand new spring and summer line to the Boom Boom Room event and the products will be available to order online shortly thereafter.
