Local politicians gave the not-for-profit Mamquam River Campground an official welcome on Thursday.
Among those who were present at the ribbon-cutting ceremony were councillors Peter Kent and Susan Chapelle, MLA Jordan Sturdy, camp founder John Harvey and camp president Pierre Friele.
Started up by the Mamquam River Society, the site hopes to provide an affordable place for people to camp in town.
The rates are $10 for the walk-in site. It’s $15 for drive-in sites, which allow up to six people, and $5 for the "Dirtbag Zone" further down the road.
This site opened its doors for Canada’s 150th birthday, but development on the project has been ongoing until this point.
“We're receiving the remaining monies of our 2018 Community Enhancement grant funding to fix the last two outhouses shortly,” said Harvey in an email to The Chief. “The project is almost done from my perspective.”
