It is with heavy hearts we announce the death of Leonardo Colica (Squamish, B.C.), who passed away on June 28, 2022, at the age of 98.
Leonardo was born in 1923 in Vibo Marina, Italy.
He was the youngest son in a family of four boys and five girls.
Hardworking from a very early age, he and his father Leoluca propagated and harvested multiple varieties of lemons, oranges and grapes for sale for over four decades.
He and Rosa LoGiacco were married in 1957 and immigrated to Canada in 1961.
They became parents to their only son Lucio in 1962 and settled in Minaty Bay after Leonardo found work with Anaconda Mines — Britannia Beach.
In 1975, after the mine closed permanently, Leonardo became employed at the Woodfibre pulp mill, and the family moved into their new house on Hospital Hill. Leonardo and Rosa remained in that house until 2020. Throughout their years in Canada, they continued their passion for growing fruit trees, vegetables and flowers
Leonardo was a kind and generous soul who lived life with stoicism and grace. He was loved and cherished by many.
He is predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Rosa, in 2021. He is survived by his son Lucio, granddaughter Mary Ann, grandson Vincent, his sister Anna, and many nieces and nephews.
Church services will commence at 11:30 on Sat. July 9, 2022, at St. Joseph's Parish
