This month, Squamish’s casino lay a sure bet on boosting children’s happiness.
Chances Squamish Gateway Casino handed the Easter Seals Camp Squamish $1,417. The money went into a campaign – Brenden’s Ride for Easter Seals – that has raised more than $13,000 to help send children from the Sea to Sky Corridor to the local camp that sees hundreds of children with disabilities every summer.
Held on Sept. 13, Brenden’s Ride for Easter Seals was a motorcycle ride from Cloverdale to the Squamish camp. For the past seven summers Brenden Parker has spent a week at the Easter Seals Camp Squamish – one of his favourite places.
“It means a lot,” Parker stated in a press release in regards to the camp. “It’s six days of so much fun. The staff and campers are so nice, everyone is active and doing things the whole time.”
Parker’s favourite activities include the camp’s low rope course, a giant swing that sends campers’ soaring into the air and swimming in the camp’s pool. He said he loves being able to take his wheelchair up the ramps to the fully-accessible tree-house.
While Parker’s at camp, his father Baron said he can enjoy a bit of respite from the constant care that Parker requires.
Chances Squamish Gateway Casino was excited to do its part, the casino’s senior shift and marketing manager Carl Severson said.
“Brenden believes that every child with a disability should get the opportunity to attend an Easter Seals Camp and so does Chances Squamish Gateway Casino.”
