Notice the quiet? For the last few days, the soundtrack of pile driving in the Mamquam Blind Channel has stopped.
But the pedestrian bridge to connect the SEAandSKY development with downtown isn't done.
The pause is due to wildlife.
"In-water piling related to the Mamquam Blind Channel Pedestrian Bridge construction has been paused intermittently due to the presence of marine wildlife in the area in accordance with our Fisheries and Oceans Canada authorization," a spokesperson for Bosa Properties Inc. told The Squamish Chief.
SEAandSky and the bridge project developers are Bosa Properties Inc. and Kingswood Properties.
Recently, locals have spotted sea lions in the channel and the Cattermole Slough.
According to the District, Rafael Santa Ana Architecture Workshop designed the bridge, which will also feature art by Squamish Nation artists Carla Spence and Calvin Dawson.
On Feb. 1, the municipality posted to its social channels that the initial pile-driving construction phase would continue until late February, with out-of-water foreshore construction slated for spring.
This timeline may be adjusted depending on how long this work stoppage is.
"We are continuing to monitor and will continue the work as efficiently as possible when we are able," the Bosa spokesperson said.
