Attention, single people in Squamish: Your presence has been requested at The Living Room.
The restaurant and lounge will host the first-ever speed dating event in Squamish tonight (Nov. 7) with up to 25 single men and women getting to know each other better in five-minute chats.
Living Room owner Sally Liebrecht said singles events are lacking in Squamish.
"I've always thought about doing something like this because I know a lot of local ladies and moms who happen to be single," she said. "I've heard from a lot of women who are excited about this, but the men seem to be a little more hesitant."
Liebrecht is dubbing the event "Nuts and Bolts," as every man will receive a nut when they walk in and the women will be equipped with bolts. The event will start with some mingling and drinks and when nut and bolt fit together properly, that will be each person's first speed date.
The men will then move on to the next woman after a five-minute conversation. After 12 chats, or roughly an hour, there will be another break with more mingling. Liebrecht said she will play it by ear after that, as the event could continue if people so desire.
"I'm hoping it's a fun thing and I hope Squamish loves it," she said, hinting that if the event goes well, speed dating could become a monthly event. "I know loads of women that want to come - we just need some more guys."
She said guys shouldn't be worried, as she will print off cheat sheets with questions to help the conversation flow. Liebrecht said she will also have a bell to speed up the process if conversation gets either too dull or too inappropriate.
"I don't really know what's going to happen," she said. "But good food and alcohol is usually a good time."
Tickets for the event are $35 and are available at the door. The ticket includes two drinks and appetizers. The event gets going at 7:30 p.m. and all are encouraged to dress to impress.
