Want free help to get out of debt and save money? Apparently, if enough people express interest, Squamish residents could receive the services to make that happen.
A major Canadian network and Force Four Entertainment (the producers of the prime-time television series Village On A Diet) are looking for an adventurous community to be featured in a new television series - and Squamish is in the running.
The goal for everyone in the selected municipality is to get out of debt, save money and build a stronger community.
"We want to help people of one community realize their lifelong dreams, as individuals and as a neighbourhood," stated the Force Four Entertainment press release.
"One select community will be given access to top financial experts, life coaches, and a powerful group of advisors. You will be helped through and rewarded for reaching milestones and participating in fun challenges."
Force Four Entertainment is looking for feedback from the potential communities to help determine which community will be selected.
"We need to hear from individuals about why they want to create stronger communities while saving money and realizing their dreams," said Force Four spokesperson Suzannah Millette.
"We want to hear from the individuals and families who would be interested in being on the show - in exploring the idea of taking on the coaching."
Several Squamish residents are stepping up to the challenge and have created a Facebook page to get the community communicating with the network.
The page, "Bring a TV show to Squamish," already has a number of supportive postings and 182 people "like it."
"This is a great idea," wrote Mark Wagner. "Squamish is definitely the right place for adventure, lifestyles and dreams of saving and raising a family."
"Just saw Village on a Diet for the first time this week," wrote Christine McLeod. "Cool that they would be looking for the same type of thing but from a financial wellness and education standpoint!"
The Facebook page also has links to the petition and a questionnaire for locals to fill out and send to Force Four Entertainment.
The questionnaire asks questions such as: What areas are tight financially? Where would you like more freedom? How strong is your financial knowledge and why are you motivated to tackle your finances now?
Millette is also asking residents what they would do if they had more time and resources to live the life they dream of. To support the application, visit the Facebook page and fill out the questionnaire or email Millette directly at [email protected]
