Squamish, want to help out the 'Senior Smoothers'?

Squamish Trails Society to start a new project this spring.

Want to help smooth some trails?

The Squamish Trails Society has been granted $25,000 from the federal New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP), and so they are going to put that cash to work.

The so-called Senior Smoothers project will get underway in April.

"The purposes are two-fold: to involve seniors in community projects and to improve the accessibility of some recreational trails," said the society's

Jim Gracie in an email to The Squamish Chief.

Seniors will locate trail sections that need smoothing, and oversee safety at work sites.

Trails society members will handle the heavy work of moving material and raking it to crown worn sections, Gracie said.

"This project will benefit all those who use the community recreational trails," he said.

 "Many hands make light work."

Anyone who wants to volunteer is encouraged to submit their name to [email protected].
