If you see a parade of beautiful sports and luxury cars rolling past Squamish this weekend, you can take comfort in the fact it’s for a good cause.
A supercar rally raising funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s B.C. and Yukon division will pass through the Sea to Sky Highway on Sept. 5.
The foundation is partnering with the Hublot Diamond Rally and Ferrari Maserati of Vancouver to make the event happen.
“The Hublot Diamond Rally as an event won’t have quite the same format this year with various social distancing measures in place and we’ve had to cancel our annual cocktail party at Ferrari Maserati,” explains Ross Hetherington, regional vice president of Make-A-Wish in a news release.
“But the spirit of the rally remains the same: presenting charities with this unique opportunity to raise critical funds. We’re very grateful to be taking part for another year, to ensure that a child battling a critical illness will see their wish come true as a result.”
According to the release, the funds will help a child who lives with a congenital heart defect.
Eleven-year-old Daniel’s wish is to visit Southern California when it is safe to do so, to take in the theme parks, and feel the thrill of all the rides.
Born prematurely and diagnosed at three days old with a congenital heart defect, he has required three open-heart surgeries. If not for the surgeries, his heart would wear out, the release says.
