From its vibrant, bustling city streets to its achingly beautiful beaches, Thailand offers some of the best places to soak in local culture, enjoy a wild night out, or lay back on a sparkling white sand shore.

A direct flight option from Vancouver to Thailand's largest city is on sale now for local travellers looking to discover the tropical gem this winter.

Canada's largest airline will offer a direct service between Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and Bangkok International Airport (BKK) starting on Dec. 1 four times a week.

The seasonal service is North America's only nonstop flight option to Bangkok, with YVR departures on Mondays, Wednesday, Fridays, and Sundays. It returns from BKK on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

If you want to take advantage of the new nonstop option as soon as it takes off, you'll be hard-pressed to find an option for under $2,000 — unless you're willing to stay for several weeks.

For example, a flight departing on Dec. 1 and returning on Dec. 11 costs $2,278 including taxes and fees. That said, this price is roughly $695 less than a similar trip. The least expensive flights for similar trips to Bangkok typically cost between $2,350 to $4,000, according to Google Flights.

If you don't wait mind waiting until the new year, however, prices drop significantly. For example, a flight departing on Jan. 22 and returning on Feb. 5 costs $1,528 including all taxes and fees.

While this is a great price, there are some tickets that cost just shy of $1,000 but involve one stopover.

Discover the magic of Thailand

From its vibrant, bustling city streets to its achingly beautiful beaches, Thailand offers some of the best places to soak in local culture, enjoy a wild night out, or lay back on a sparkling white sand shore. Bangkok is a great place to explore ancient shrines and a variety of street food, boasting sprawling "eating streets" that you'd be hard-pressed to make a considerable dent in.

While Bangkok is its capital city, there are a vast array of unique travel experiences to enjoy across the popular Southeast Asia destination. For example, Phuket, the country's largest and most popular island, is surrounded by several breathtaking beaches. Some of the viewpoints on the island are also said to feature some of the most awe-inspiring sunsets in the country.
