Whistler Writers Festival begins Oct. 17

"The Sound of Story: Oral Storytelling & Spoken Word" headlines Thursday's programming
library September 2021
The Whistler Public Library.

Tomorrow officially ushers in the 2024 Whistler Writers Festival (WWF), and three notable events are on tap.

Swing by Whistler Public Library at 7 p.m. for a unique headliner, "The Sound of Story: Oral Storytelling & Spoken Word". Lil’wat author and oral storyteller Holly Bikadi and Squamish storyteller Tsawaysia Spukwus Dominique Nahanee will join spoken word/slam poetry artist Nisha Patel and award-winning poet Bradley Peters in a dynamic narrative performance, as well as a discussion about diverse and ancient art forms of storytelling.

At noon, the Library will also host the first instalment of "Publish Like a Pro". In this workshop series, Vivalogue Publishing founder Lynn Duncan will share her experiences on the business of publishing, the details of book production and how to refine one's concept. These seminars are ideal for authors with a manuscript that are looking to step towards publishing, writers who need to understand differences in publishing types, and those seeking impartial feedback.

Stick around for a free 5 p.m. event called "Canada's Best Indies 2024" where finalists in the Whistler Independent Book Awards will read their material: including children’s literature, fiction, and non-fiction. The contest winner will be announced at Oct' 18's Literary Cabaret.
