The carnival is back in Squamish next week and organizers are saying it will be better and bigger than the town has ever seen.
The Squamish Elks Lodge #119 organize the carnival and Spring Fair and as well as being their annual fundraiser, the event is also something exalted leader, Barbara Nicholson said will be great entertainment for the family and "kids aged two to 102."
"It's the largest, oldest and best carnival company in Canada," said Nicholson. "This year we will be bigger and better than before. We will take up the entire old Interfor site with all of the rides."
Nicholson said there would be the most rides the town had ever seen, twice as many rides as last year.
The rides will include all of the death-defying favourites of past years as well as many more. There will also be Kiddy Land rides, games, and concessions with lots of cotton candy. Nicholson said she personally will be partaking in the fun and hopes to have a go on the ferris wheel.
The Carnival is located at the old Interfor site on Highway 99 next to the Shell Station. It will run Wednesday April 12, to Friday April 14, from 3 to 10:30 p.m. and on Saturday April 15, from noon to 10:30 p.m. and then Sunday April 15 from noon to 6 p.m.
Entrance to the carnival is free and rides cost $12 for six rides with a coupon found in this week's and last week's Chief and day wrist bands, for access to all rides are $23. Children under 12 can also enter a colouring contest to win an "all rides wrist band." Applications can be found in the newspaper and entrants must drop off their submissions, at the Chief office (38117) Second Avenue, before 5 p.m. Monday April 10.
The Squamish Elks have been operating for 86 years working towards supporting programs and children in need. According to Nicholson all proceeds raised through the carnival will stay in the community.
