Chamber Manager resigns

Community

Karen Hodson

Chamber General Manager

There has been a tremendous amount of change during the past six years since I was hired by the Chamber and moved to Squamish. I recently heard the line "Squamish Extreme Makeover", which I believe adequately sums up the community. Being the Manager of the Chamber of Commerce, it has allowed me to be in the unique position of being involved with a lot of that change. It has been a rewarding and exciting experience. The Chamber has also gone through a lot of transformation. I started with a $25,00 deficit and an all-male board of directors. The finances are now in a positive position and there are six men and six women on the board. The President's Banquet and Trade Show were both soldout events. A new website is up and running, the newsletter is evolving, and membership is growing. I am proud of the many accomplishments made and there are lots more opportunities yet to come. However, I too am ready for a personal change.

After a lot of thought, I have resigned from my position as Manager of the Squamish Chamber of Commerce. April 15 will be my last day.

I am going to take some time off and head out on a solo journey hiking the 780 km long Camino de Santiago (El Camino) pilgrimage trail in Spain. It is something I have wanted to do for a few years but never had the time. Here is a window of opportunity that I need to step into. When I come back in June I will be moved from Squamish and heading down a new career path.

A part of me is excited about the adventures I am about to soar into, yet there is also a part of me that is sad to leave. I know that I am going to miss some of the incredible people that I have been particularly blessed to have met along the way. To all of you - thank you.

There are lots of new and exciting things going on in Squamish. I wish the Chamber of Commerce (staff, Board of Directors and members), as well as the community of Squamish all the best.
