Everyone is Irish today

Today is March 17, St Patrick's Day, the day on which you all get to be Irish for the day. I on the other hand get to be Irish everyday, though I was born a British subject and am now a Canadian citizen.

Today is March 17, St Patrick's Day, the day on which you all get to be Irish for the day. I on the other hand get to be Irish everyday, though I was born a British subject and am now a Canadian citizen.

Would it be suffice to say that if I won the lottery I would build a home on the west coast of County Galway, Ireland, overlooking the waves pounding onto the white sandy beaches I played on as a child. Erin Go Bra` - Happy St. Patrick's Day!

On Friday (April 28) at 7:30 p.m. "Hats and Fashion" will take place at St John's Anglican Church.

Well-known historian and costume collector Ivan Sayers and his company from Vancouver will orchestrate a fashion show featuring hats made by Canadian designers, covering the period from the 1900s to the 1970s. Hmm, might actually see something like what you used to wear yourself.

Three years ago, Sayers presented a very well received historical fashion show, the focus of which was the changing size of waistelines in fashion.

The $12 tickets for the hats in fashion presentation are to be presold and are going fast.

Check at Billie's Bouquet or Mostly Books, both on Cleveland Avenue for ticket availability. And yes, you may wear a hat - as outrageous or modest as you would like - to the event.

My husband Glenn is now officially old.

He doesn't look older, he doesn't act older but he is now in receipt of his Goldcard - which entitles him to what? Riding BC Ferries as a foot passenger for free during the hours of... Must be more to it than that. (In Ireland when you reach 65 you get to use all public transportation, busses, trains, etc, for free).

In honour of Glenn's auspicious day, if you know him or me or any of our three children at all, you are invited to an Open House, 1 - 4 p.m. Saturday (March 25) at Fire Hall #2 in Garibaldi Estates.

It has been hard coming up with a day when all the children and their families could be here on the same day.

Glenn's former Woodfibre friends and co-workers, members of the many committees he is on, fishing/hunting buddies, friends, neighbours, St. Joseph's Church parishioners, RCMP and Search and Rescue members and, of course, his fellow firefighters from Halls #1 and #2 are most cordially invited to come spend as long or short a time as you have for some champagne, a nosh and a natter - I can just hear those old time stories starting to roll.

Glenn is one of only about three people to actually be born on site in Woodfibre, three weeks premature, other than the many born in the Japanese community of mill and saw mill workers and shingle bolt operation cutters prior to their removal from Woodfibre for internment elsewhere in 1941 during WWII.

Who did I leave out? In short, anyone who knows Glenn and would like to wish him Happy Birthday are most welcome.
