Henrickson's ex-boyfriend jailed for breaching conditions

Arrest stems from case unrelated to Squamish teen's disappearance

Gavin Arnott, the ex-boyfriend of missing Squamish teenager Jodi Henrickson, is behind bars on charges not related to Henrickson's disappearance.

On Tuesday, Feb. 7, Comox Valley RCMP took the 23-year-old into custody near his home in Black Creek on Vancouver Island. Bowen Island RCMP had a warrant out for his arrest for breaching bail conditions in a case involving a 14-year-old girl.

Arnott faces charges of sexual interference and child pornography for allegedly having photos of the victim. He was arrested in May 2011 for allegedly threatening the victim. This month, he allegedly breached his bail conditions by having contact with the victim, Bowen Island RCMP Cst. Bryan Mulrooney told The Chief.

Arnott is now in the Lower Mainland pending his court appearance at the North Vancouver Provincial Court on Feb. 24.

Arnott is a person of interest in the Henrickson homicide investigation. The 17-year-old was last seen in the early hours of June 20, 2009 by Arnott. The two had been to a party on Bowen Island.

At the time, Arnott had a restraining order barring him from being in Henrickson's company. The order was for an alleged earlier assault on Henrickson.

In December 2011, Crime Stoppers, B.C. Ferries and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) launched a poster campaign in a hunt for fresh tips on the case. Crime Stoppers is offering $2,000 to an individual who provides a tip leading to an arrest or charge.

Sea to Sky Crime Stoppers is pleased with the results of the recent poster campaign, the organization's director Larry Murray said.

"We continue to urge people to phone in," he said, adding that any information, no matter how irrelevant it may seem to be, is useful to the investigation.

Anyone with information can make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
