Currently, it is -15 C at the Squamish Airport on Tuesday morning. That is record-breaking cold.

According to Environment Canada, since 1982, the coldest it has gotten on this date was -12.2 C in 1996.

The average Dec. 28th high for Squamish is 3.1 C and the average low is -1.6 C.

The warmest it has been on this day was 9.7 C in 2011.

The Environment Canada Arctic outflow warning continues for Howe Sound.

"An Arctic ridge of high pressure over the B.C. Interior is bringing strong and bitterly cold outflow winds to the coastal communities resulting in very cold wind chill values. Mainland inlets and areas that are exposed to outflow winds are more likely to experience these very cold wind chill values," the warning reads.

"Frostbite and hypothermia can occur within minutes if adequate precautions are not taken when outdoors. Any outdoor activity exposes you to an increased risk of frostbite. Minimize exposed skin with hats, scarves and mittens or gloves. Anyone who is not dressed warmly is at risk of frostbite and hypothermia in cold weather. Be prepared for unusually cold temperatures and strong winds. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight."

Today, expect a high — yes, this is as warm as it will get! — of -9 C. With the wind chill, it will feel like -24 C this morning and -17 C this afternoon.

Snow is expected starting Wednesday night.

The low temperatures will continue throughout the week, warming to a balmy 0 C on Sunday.
