Squamish local featured in advocacy campaign on Family Day

Ann Forry is one of many fighting to change the Family Compensation Act.

Squamish's Ann Forry, who was born and raised here and whose mother Joan is a long-time local volunteer, is featured in a new campaign released on Family Day.

Forry’s 29-year-old daughter, Natasha died from a staph infection on Thanksgiving Day after visiting Lions Gate Hospital four times the previous week or so.

Forry quickly discovered she couldn't sue the hospital for negligence because the Family Compensation Act only gives value to people who have dependents.

Forry isn't alone in her anger over this law.

The BC Wrongful Death Law Reform Society released the video "Worthless," on Monday.

In it, Forry holds a photo of Natasha. Fourteen other family members who have lost loved ones do the same with their beloved.

B.C. Attorney General David Eby has told CBC previously that his government aims to change the Family Compensation Act during its current term in office.

That can't come soon for members of the devastated families, including Forry, who appear in the video.
