Volunteers bring hockey to Squamish

Community

Contributed to The Chief

The week of April 17 to 24 has been declared National Volunteer Week, a week dedicated to honouring and recognizing Canadians volunteers. Volunteerism has an enormous positive impact on quality of life. This is the perfect occasion for the community of Squamish to acknowledge this fact by honouring and creating awareness of volunteerism.

All volunteer-based groups are requested to provide the Squamish Volunteer Centre Society with the number of volunteer hours that were contributed within their organization in 2004. The monetary value of these hours will be calculated and symbolically presented to the District of Squamish through a large cheque in recognition of the actual economic and social impact that volunteerism represents in our community. Organizations can contribute their data at the contact information below.

The Squamish Volunteer Centre Society would like to assist local community groups in recognizing the precious time and energy contributed by their volunteers.

Non-Profit Organizations and other volunteer based groups are invited to display tributes and pictures of their extraordinary volunteers on the Wall of Honour located inside the Hotspot, Squamish's community resource centre for non-profit organizations and SVC's headquarters.

On April 23 the Squamish Volunteer Centre will be hosting a Street Hockey Tournament. Everyone in the community is invited to watch and enjoy a free BBQ lunch in honor of Squamish's volunteers.

Individuals and Organizations are encouraged to put together hockey teams to partake in the tournament. Contact SVC at 604-815-4121 or drop into the Hotspot at 38027 Cleveland Ave. for more information on how to get involved.
