Squamolian Peter Bacon passed away in May 2023 after being diagnosed with cancer.

Squamish resident Kai Bacon has taken the lead on a charity pickleball tournament in his hometown.

On June 22, members of the public are invited to Brennan Park for a day of recreational sport, baked goods, raffle tickets and other such refreshments. All proceeds will go towards the Sea to Sky Hospice Society.

Kai says that the festivities will be held in honour of his uncle Peter, who died in May 2023 after being diagnosed with aggressive Stage 4 cancer.

"The care, compassion and dignity provided by the hospice staff and management is something our family will be forever grateful for," wrote the 19-year-old on his fundraising page. "We hope you will join us at the pickleball courts at Brennan Park and help us raise some funds for this vital community service."

Adds Kai's father, Andrew in an email to Pique Newsmagazine: "My brother [Peter] was a special guy!  I am proud of my son for wanting to do this. It is going to be a fun family day."
