The 11th annual Whippet Races take place at Brennan Park this weekend on Saturday and Sunday (Aug. 18 and 19) with races scheduled each day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The 11th annual Whippet Races take place at Brennan Park this weekend on Saturday and Sunday (Aug. 18 and 19) with races scheduled each day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Along with local whippet owners, many folks from Vancouver Island, the Lower Mainland, and from Washington and Oregon will be bringing their animals to this competition. The local organizers have one request of the community and that is, please leave your dogs at home.

The Caregiver Support Group motto is: you don't need to face the many difficult jobs of care giving for your aging loved ones alone. The next meeting for this group is on Wednesday (Aug. 22) from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Seniors Centre. If you wish more information, please contact Donna Howard or Nadine Goodgrove at 604-892-6400.

I think most of us try to do our part in recycling, but there are many items not accepted in our recycle bins and some of those items include: lipstick cases, shampoo bottles, body wash containers, lotion dispensers, shaving foam tubes, hair gel tubes an many more items. Sea to Sky Community Services sponsors G.R.O.W. (Gardening, Recycling Organics Worms) is run by the Squamish Youth Resource Centre and members are at the Farmers' Market on alternate Saturdays to answer your questions, accept your recycled items and accept cash donations. All Keep Fit sessions at the Seniors Centre begin the week of Monday (Aug. 27) and for more information on registrations, drop by the centre or call (604) 848-6896.

The next soup and sandwich day will be held on Thursday (Aug. 30) at noon. For a friendly game of lawn bowling, drop by the greens from 1 to 3 p.m. on Thursdays.

The Summer Reading Club at the Squamish Public Library is winding down with a Super Hero Party on Tuesday (Aug. 21) from 1 to 2:30 p.m. for children ages six to 12 years. Hey kids pick your favourite hero to dress up as and get in on the fun. During the summer, there were more than 400 participants and more than 265 took part in the Reading Record program. All good wishes go to coordinator Kimi Grass and her assistants Kevin Souza and Shelby Jenkins who will be heading back to university in September.

The next Interpretive Walk from the Senior Centre at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday (Aug. 22) will be an Estuary Loop Walk led by Dawn Green and Meg Fellowes.
