U.S. President Donald Trump's threatened tariffs on all imports from Canada and Mexico are set to begin on Tuesday.
The president has said the 25% tariffs are being implemented because of what he sees as a stream of fentanyl and migrants that are making it to his country from Canada and Mexico.
The Squamish Chief polled 511 readers and asked the question: Do you think the threatened U.S. tariffs will actually come to pass?
The poll ran from 2/6/2025 to 3/2/2025. Of the 511 votes, we can determine that 215 are from within the community.
(Because poll takers don't have to identify where they live, the number of locals is likely higher.)
The majority of respondents, 62%, said they believe Trump will implement the tariffs.
If the tariffs do go ahead, in response, the Government of Canada has said it will move ahead with 25 % tariffs of its own on $155 billion worth of imported U.S. products
