Get ready for takeoff, women of Squamish!
In honour of Women of Aviation Worldwide Week, Squamish's Glacier Air and the BC Coast 99's International Organization of Women Pilots are once again helping women and girls reach new heights.
For those who have never flown in a small airplane before, March 7 will be their chance to buckle in for free.
"So many women never consider a career in aviation or have the opportunity to see themselves as pilots. I want to help change that," Colette Morin, the owner and chief flight instructor at Glacier Air, said in a press release.
At last year's event, 144 women flew over Squamish in small planes.
Glacier Air has been part of Fly It Forward since 2011. Morin took over Glacier Air in 2001, and since then helped 140 pilots earn their licenses. Those pilots included 11% women compared to the national average of 6%. Still, Morin strives to inspire more women to get their wings.
Flights are on a first-come, first-fly basis between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on March 7 at the Squamish Municipal Airport in Brackendale.
